Limit Soda Pop For Better Sleep

There are many factors that affect quality of sleep. Some times Sleep Apnea is exacerbated by weight gain which can be attributed to the empty calories found in soda pop.

Most people understand that pop isn’t a good thing to consume in excess. Over the years I’ve had patients drinking up to a 6 pack per day ” instead of coffee” or, they are drinking diet soda pop to reduce the amount sugar they are consuming. It really doesn’t matter though because of all the other effects.

The physiologic effects are pretty wide- reaching.

  • Poor sleep
  • Weight gain
  • Worsening Sleep Apnea
  • Insulin dysregulation
  • Digestion
  • Cardiovascular health
  • Calcium loss which can affect muscle contractility – if drinking a lot of pop

I have seen patients find improvement in ligament, muscle and or joint pain as well as sleep when they give up soda pop due to the reduction in caffeine, sugar, etc. These were patients who were drinking 5-6 cans of pop per day.

This info graphic is an excellent visual of what occurs with 2-3 cans of pop in your system!!!

A cold Coca-Cola goes great on a hot day but as with everything, moderation! Enjoy the summer and a can of pop…just not a 6 pack!
